Earl Nightingale on Goal Setting and Personal Development
2026-02-10 · 10 min
Earl Nightingale figured most people never actually set a clear goal, and that one thing explains a huge amount of why people drift. It is hard to hit a target you never named. Once you know where you are headed, your daily moves finally have something to line up behind.
Put Them in Writing
Nightingale was firm about writing goals down. Something happens when they leave your head and hit the page: it turns into a contract with yourself. Read them daily. Keep them where you can see them. Your mind keeps working on them in the background even when you are busy with everything else.
Never Stop Learning
He was a learner to the end and told everyone to invest in themselves, through books, courses, and time around people a few steps ahead. It is the same order we believe in: get the mindset right first, then stack the skills on top.
