His Story: First in His Family to Make It Big
Neil was born in England and moved to California with his family as a kid. At first they struggled. Because of his mom’s tenacity and his dad’s work ethic, they built a middle-class life—and Neil grew up surrounded by entrepreneurs. He was the first in his family to break through at the level he has: co-founding companies like Crazy Egg and KISSmetrics, helping brands like Amazon, NBC, GM, and Viacom grow, and now running NP Digital and Ubersuggest. Make it clear, useful, and digestible for anyone. When you do that, organic marketing and paid ads work better because you’re promoting something worth promoting.
The Importance of Marketing (SEO, Organic & Paid)
Neil stresses that marketing isn’t optional. You need to be findable—whether that’s through organic marketing (SEO, content, social, email) or paid ads (Google, Meta, LinkedIn, etc.). Both channels matter. Organic builds long-term trust and compound traffic; paid can scale reach and test messages fast. That foundation is content that delivers value. If your content doesn’t help, entertain, or answer real questions, neither organic nor paid will save you. So the first job is always: make content people want to read, and make it digestible for anyone.
